Intro. to Air Medicine Track (T1)
Learn the basics about Air Medicine from aviation to critical care medicine to survival skills. Instructed by Life-Guard medical crew members Kevin Kissner and Danny Smith, with pilot Tim Roberts. Space is Limited to 35 participants. Participants who complete this course will be offered an opportunity to apply for a ride-a-long with Life-Guard (at a later date).

Intro. to Tactical Medicine Track (T2)
The role of the Tactical Medic in SWAT and Emergency situations is vital. This course offers both classroom as well as practical skills on the Tactical Medic’s role in SWAT and hostile situations. Lead Instructor is Dr. Kevin Broyles. This is an all day course. Space is limited to 30 participants.

Intro. to Underwater Rescue Track (T3)
Partnering with Diving Enterprises, this course combines classroom instruction as well as practical application. Students will be off site for this class. Please bring appropriate swimwear. Lead Instructor is Scott Davis, NREMT-P. This course includes a $35 Equipment fee.Space is Limited to 20 participants.A waiver will be obtained after registration.

Managing the victim of a trauma is difficult. Learn the background of traumatic injury from the experts at CRMH Forensics team. This dynamic class includes actual case studies managed by local EMS teams

12:15 – 13:15A. Stethoscopy for Dummies - Bob Page, NREMT-P, CCEMT-P
How much did you pay for your stethoscope? How much training did you get on how to use it? In this session, participants are provided down to earth "for dummies" information on various types of stethoscopes and how to use them to get the most out of patient assessment. New and improved methods and techniques are presented and lung and heart sounds are also played aloud so all participants can hear the sounds rather than hear a "description" of the sound. A limited number of stethoscopes will be given out as door prizes for this session.

It’s been more than three years since Carilion Clinic embarked on a mission to reduce “Door to Balloon times” of patients suffering from heart attack. Dr Frantz recaps successes over the years.

Developed by the Department of Defense and implemented in the hospital setting to improve communications and clearly define expectations; TeamSTEPPS provides strategies on improving communications and developing a safety-centered culture.

In the movie Karate Kid, Miyagi told the young Danielson…”No such thing bad student, only bad teacher”…”Teacher say, student do”Ever wonder what that means? Does it apply to EMS Educators? In this session, we look at things from the student’s perspective and a critical look at ourselves as a whole. Do we have bad “teaching habits? What would it take to be good teacher? Come join Bob as together we “focus” on improving education.

15:00 - 16:15Maximum Impact: A story of survival -Jonathan Godfrey, RN, CMTE
Hear the first hand account from flight nurse Jonathan Godfrey as he describes how he survived a medical helicopter crash in 2005. In this closing session, Jonathan will share his “lessons learned” as well as how he has moved forward, rejuvenating the Association of Air Medical Service’s Vision Zero Initiative. Ground and Air EMS providers and other health care providers will be challenged to develop a stronger safety culture and personal vigilance.

Conference Tuition:
Tuition cost for Non-Carilion attendees is $70.00 per individual registrant. Registration includes conference materials, light breakfast, lunch and break. A signed payroll deduction form is required to confirm your registration. $70 dollars will be charged to Carilion employees who do not attend.
